Ayanna Pressley: Paid family leave is a necessity

And we need to pass paid family leave legislation, so that parents and caregivers don't lose vital income when they need to take care of a sick child or aging parent.

Bob Massie: Support Raise Up Agenda of paid family leave

Our economy is upside down; productivity has increased 70% in 40 years but wages have gone up only 8%. We need a more inclusive and more democratic economy that supports working people and our local communities. As governor, I will:The New Economy is already rising up in our midst. Now we need a governor who understands these forces and can support their growing and positive impact on our local communities.

Martha Coakley: Mandatory prosecution of restraining order violations

Coakley has been a supporter of current restraining order policies as Middlesex County District Attorney from 1999 to 2007 and as Attorney General since 2007. She has also supported mandatory prosecution of restraining order violations, even when those violations are trivial, unintentional, or harmless.

On the Greater Boston television show, Coakley defended restraining order policies on the show, and did not acknowledge the need for any changes.

Scott Brown: Presumption of shared parenting after divorce

As a member of the Massachusetts legislature for over five years, Senator Brown has clearly supported a presumption of shared parenting after divorce. In fact, he was a co-sponsor of Fathers and Families' HB 1460, a bill which calls for just such a presumption. As a child of divorce, he also has supported shared parenting in conversations with me. Members may recall that Brown spoke at a Fathers and Families meeting a few years ago.

Michael Capuano: Healthy Families Act: paid time off for respite care

Q: How would you address long-term care so people can stay in their homes?A: I support a continuum of medical care, and I share your conviction that home and community services contribute both to high quality care and to the dignity & autonomy of the patient. I co-founded, with another urban Democrat and two rural Republican colleagues, the bi-partisan House caucus on Community Health Centers. I have consistently supported Visiting Nurses and hospice care. I am proud to co-sponsor HR 2460, the Healthy Families Act, which adds paid time off to the protections of the Family and Medical Leave Act. I am aware of the responsibilities, lovingly borne, by family caregivers. As a Mayor, I negotiated flextime and job sharing to help employees fulfill their family responsibilities.

Jeff Beatty: Supports protecting families

Beatty supports John McCain for president, seeing the Republican candidate as a man like himself whose priorities are “to protect families, to protect jobs, and to protect the country.” He endorsed Jessica’s Law, a law adopted by 42 states to punish sex offenders and limit their ability to re-offend. In support of protecting jobs, he said he opposes benefits to illegal immigrants at the expense of legal immigrants and American citizens and supports reduced taxes on small businesses.

Kerry Healey: Teach abstinence as part of comprehensive sex ed

Q: How do you feel about the governor’s abstinence program?

A: I think that abstinence has its place as part of a comprehensive health and sex education curriculum. It would be wrong to exclude abstinence from a health curriculum, because there are some potentially very serious ramifications for early sexual activity. Having some discussion of abstinence, and what protections abstinence education could afford, is very important. But it should be part of a comprehensive curriculum.
